PUERTO VALLARTA - MEXICO!
The second most popular destination
in Mexico, Puerto Vallarta occupies a nice niche
between the other big resort cities -- it's more
sophisticated than Cancún, but more laid-back
than Acapulco. Part of its popularity is owed
to the fact that development has left its Old
Town unscathed, so there are cobblestone streets
and graceful churches in the city center instead
of glass and concrete towers. Moreover, the city
has the best dining and shopping on the coast.
Puerto Vallarta's Zona Hotelera
(aka Zona Hotelera Norte) is the stretch of hotel-laden
coast north of downtown. It's convenient to downtown
as well as to the Marina Vallarta area just to
the north and to the airport. Marina Vallarta
is home to the cruise-ship terminal; the Royal
Pacific Yacht Club and its 355-slip marina; an
18-hole golf course; condo developments; and such
exclusive resorts as the Velas Vallarta, the Marriott,
and the Westin. Marina Vallarta's sandy beach
is more attractive these days than those of the
Zona Hotelera. Plaza Marina provides a focal point
for the area, with restaurants as well as shops
and other businesses....
