WASHINGTON DC!
At any given time, in any given year, much is
happening in the nation's capital. Recently, D.C. witnessed
the re-opening of two Smithsonian museums -- the National
Portrait Gallery and the American Art Museum -- in the
heart of Penn Quarter and continues to see a spectacular
expansion of the Kennedy Center in Foggy Bottom.
Within its city limits (67 sq. miles), Washington
teems with history, made and in the making; the arts;
cosmopolitan culture; magnificent parks, gardens, and
architecture. Put it all together and you have a world
hub of power, diplomacy, beauty, and intellect. You won't
ever lack things to see and do here. But if you don't
know where to begin your trip planning, you've come to
the right source...
Two thousand-six promises to be a banner year
in Washington, with the opening of the long-awaited Capitol
Visitors Center beneath the U.S. Capitol Building (no
more standing outside in wind-whipping cold or sweltering
heat to line up for a tour), the reopening of the Smithsonian's
American Art Museum and the National Portrait Gallery
after a six-year renovation, and the debut of the National
Garden, which includes a First Ladies' Water Garden and
Rose and Butterfly gardens, all part of the gorgeous U.S.
Botanic Garden.
